Kim, Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of adventure and identity, follows a sharp-witted orphan boy who lives by his wits on the streets of colonial India. Torn between his Irish blood and his Indian upbringing, Kim becomes the devoted disciple of an ageing Tibetan but is drawn into the real and dangerous 'Great Game' of espionage between the British and Russian empires. Vivid, funny and full of colourful characters, Kim is a thoughtful story about belonging, loyalty and growing up between two worlds.****************************Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay in 1865, and India shaped him from his very first breath. As a small child he spoke Hindustani before English, and he later described his early years in India as a kind of paradise. At the age of five, however, he was sent to England for his schooling, a lonely experience that left him longing for the country he had left behind. Kipling returned to India as a young journalist in 1882, and it was there that he began to write the stories and poems that made him famous. In many ways, Kim is Kipling's most personal book: like his young hero, Kipling himself lived suspended between two cultures, at home in India yet forever marked as an Englishman. In 1907 Kipling won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and remains, to this day, the youngest person ever to receive the award.
