Have you ever wondered if your toys come to life when you leave the room? Racketty-Packetty House was one of the first to use that wonderful idea. In a quiet corner of an old nursery, a secret war is happening between two very different worlds. On one side is a beautiful new doll’s house. The dolls inside are rich but mean. On the other side is the Racketty-Packetty House. It is old and the dolls inside have messy hair and torn clothes, but they are the happiest toys in the room. They spend their time laughing, singing, and dancing. When the little girl who owns them decides to throw the old house away, the story becomes a race against time. It asks us a question: Can personality and joy win against money and newness?****************************The author of this magical story was Frances Hodgson Burnett. She was born in Manchester, England, in 1849. Her life was a bit like the dolls she created. When she was young, her family had very little money, and they had to move to America to find a better life. She became very famous and successful for writing The Secret Garden and A Little Princess. However, Racketty-Packetty House, published in 1906, was a special project for her. It shows her love for the ‘underdog’.
