Covers fifty years of Hong Kong’s maritime 歷史, revealing much about shipping and salvage. Alan Loynd, well-known Marine Consultant and shipping columnist, Fellow of the Nautical Institute and the International Tugmasters Association, Freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, describes a career in a changing world. Serving first with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary on replenishment vessels, tankers and ammunition ships supporting the Royal Navy, then with the Swire Group, sailing on general cargo ships trading mainly from Hong Kong to the Pacific islands, he witnessed the revolution in shipping which containerisation caused. Transferring to Hongkong Salvage & Towage, he directed numerous salvage operations, the recovery of a Boeing 747 from Hong Kong harbour in 1993 being widely reported. As Captain Superintendent of Tuvalu Maritime School, “on loan” from Swire to the Australian Government for a period, he showed Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth around in 1982. Preface by Barnaby Swire.
