This volume consists of 4 different short stories from the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Bringing in the most famous female character Irene Adler in the series, the first story A Scandal in Bohemia narrated the affairs between her and the King of Bohemia, all because of an indiscreet photograph that Holmes has to recover. The Red-Headed League is about a pawnbroker gained a highly-paid clerical work just because of his red hair, Holmes finds this job offer unfolded a conspiracy. A Case of Identity, the third story, a woman with stable income has a fiancé who has recently disappeared, while at the end Holmes figures out what was behind the mystery. The Boscombe Valley Mystery, the last story in this volume, is about a murder case whose the deceased’s son is implicated. Holmes deduces that there was a third person in the crime scene which lead to the murderer’s confession.

Arthur Conan Doyle was born on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Doyle first published the book The Mystery of Sasassa Valley in 1879 as a medical student. Till 1887, A Study in Scarlet introduced people to later world-renowned fictional characters Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson.
