Animal Farm is one of Orwell’s representative works, first published in 1945. It tells the story of a group of animals fighting against the oppression of humans and aiming to create an equal society. However, the so-called equal society is a dictated place where “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. Animal Farm is considered to insinuate Soviet communism and is seen as one of the most classical works for reflecting totalitarianism.

George Orwell was born on 25 June 1903 into a “lower-upper-middle class” family in Britain. Orwell entered the leading school Eton Colleges through his own efforts in 1917. Upon graduation, he chose to work as a colonial police officer for Britain in Myanmar instead of entering a top university for financial concern. Orwell also volunteered to participate in the Spanish Civil War in 1936.
Orwell’s life experience provided him with thoughtful insights into utopianism, socialism, and totalitarianism. These reflections were presented in his most famous novels Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm.
