《古詩十九首》是在漢代漢族民歌基礎上發展起來的十九首五言詩。當時東漢末年的社會動盪、政治混亂，所以這些古詩的題材亦多是抒發夫婦朋友間的離愁別緒、士人的彷徨失意，以及人生的飄泊無常之感。雖然《古詩十九首》的藝術成極高，在中國詩史以及五言詩的發展上，都有著重要地位。

《古詩十九首》的作者和時代已難以考究，最早於南朝梁蕭統（即昭明太子）編入《昭明文選》因而傳世。蕭統為梁武帝之子，他編撰的《昭明文選》選錄了先秦至梁的詩文辭賦七百餘首，是中國現存最早的大型詩文總集。
