《一枝一葉總關情》第一版是香港大學國內校友為慶祝母校八十週年撰寫的文集，1999年再增訂。自港大創校於1912年以來，已有國內學者到港大就讀或作學術交流活動。本書記載國內新老校友的體驗及他們對母校的情懷。香港地區與祖國大陸緊相毗連。但是，由於歷史和政治的原因，長期以來兩地同胞對兩者之間的聯繫知之甚少。隨著近年祖國大陸的改革開放，人們對兩地的政治經濟聯繫了解逐漸增多，但對其文化聯繫了解仍然很少。本書編委會希冀少許彌補這方面的缺陷，為增進兩地相互了解，為加強祖國大陸與香港和國外的文化交流添磚加瓦。許多港大老校友具有豐富和曲折的人生經歷，是許多歷史事件的親歷者或目睹者。他們的傳略和回憶錄是香港史和中國近代史的重要參考資料。編輯和出版本書，亦是一件搶救史料的工作。 — 主編劉蜀永 1910年，港大奠基時，發起人兼校監盧迦爵士已確認港大的使命，是「為中國而立」。港大的發展，一向得到校友的支持，在未來的日子，隨著港大內地校友聯誼社的拓展，藉著校友進一步推動與國內教研單位的聯繫，當能加強港大作為一所高等學府，為祖國培育人才、成為國際文化交流橋頭堡的使命。 — 香港大學校長鄭耀宗
