Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontë’s only written novel, first published with the name of Ellis Bell in 1847, the year before she passed away. Brontë put much effort into shaping the main figure Heathcliff’s unfortunate experiences and later revenge. Heathcliff is an orphan adopted by the rich Mr. Earnshaw. However, he gets more attention and love than Earnshaw’s own children, the son Hindley and the daughter Catherine. This leads to Hindley’s resentment and cruelty toward Heathcliff. While Heathcliff develops an intimate relationship with Catherine, Catherine still decides to engage to Edgar Linton because of Heathcliff’s low social status. Heathcliff runs away but returns with wealth three years later with a plan for his revenge.
