A Christmas Carol mainly follows a story of a mean-spirited and selfish old man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who hates Christmas. While he is sitting in his counting house on a cold Christmas Eve alone, the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley comes by and visits him, subsequently followed by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. They all point out Ebenezer Scrooge’s mistakes. After their visits, Scrooge is scared and later transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Charles Dickens (1812–1870) is one of the most influential figures in English literature, renowned for his vivid storytelling, memorable characters, and social conscience. Born into modest circumstances in Portsmouth, England, Dickens’s early life was marked by hardship and poverty. HIs works such as Oliver Twist and David Copperfield reveal his concern with social inequality and human dignity. Yet, Dickens also recognized the power of storytelling to uplift and inspire, especially during the Christmas season.
