The Sorrows of Young Werther was written in 1774, which made Johann Wolfgang von Goethe gain fame almost overnight. The main character Werther told his passionate story to his friend Wilhelm. During Werther’s staying in a village, he fell in love with a beautiful girl called Charlotte despite knowing that Charlotte had engaged to a man named Albert. Werther went though alternately joyful and depressed moment. Because of his unrequited love for Charlotte, the young Werther chose his own way to solve this dilemma.

The Sorrows of Young Werther is a semi-autobiographical work. Since its publication in 1774, this classics novel has attained tremendous success, as well as placing Goethe among the foremost writers in the German literary field.
