Sense and Sensibility is Austen’s first published book, telling the story of three Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother. The story focuses on the two elder sisters Elinor and Marianne, who face the choice of finding a life partner and entering a marriage. One girl is the embodiment of “sense”, which means calm and logical but always conceals her true feeling. The other represents “sensibility”, which is passionate and emotional towards a romantic relationship. Austen leaves us to think more deeply about sense and sensibility, and if there is another choice in-between.

Jane Austen was an English novelist, born on 16 December 1775. Her six major works focus on the British gentry and lady, love, and marriage.
With books published anonymously, Austen achieved modest success but only a little fame in her lifetime. She gained far more status after her death. Until now, Austen’s works are continued to be mentioned and discussed. Her use of biting irony, along with her realism and social commentary, has earned her acclaim among readers, critics, and scholars.
